What is the history of Hormuz Island?

at

In ancient times this island was called Organa by the Greeks. The name changed to Jarun in the Islamic period. Afterwards, the name Hormuz was chosen for this island because of the Mongolian invasion.

Mongolian Invasion

In the early Mongolian era, the old city of Hormuz in the mainland harbor 60 km away had a prosperous trade. With the Mongol invasion around 700 AH, the people of Hormuz (the city) were forced to move to Qeshm Island and then Jarun (now called Hormuz Island). They built a city inside the island and named it after their old city of Hormuz. That’s why the island has the same name as the harbor.

Becoming the capital

The greatness of Hormuz Island was so much that it became the capital of the Persian Gulf provinces, including Bahrain. This continued until the time that it was occupied by the Portuguese in 1507.
