Where is Tajrish?

Tajrish neighborhood is located in the north part of Tehran at the end of Tehran’s Vali-e Asr Avenue on the slops of the Alborz mountain range. It’s one of the city’s busiest commercial centers. Thanks to its proximity to the Alborz Mountain and being 1600 m above sea level the climate in Tajrish is mostly temperate and cold. Depending on the season the maximum and minimum temperature is between -20 ° and 36 ° C. There have been numerous aqueducts in the city of Tajrish and some of them are still flooded today. Including the aqueduct of Imam Zadeh Saleh, Mohammedi, and the aqueduct of Maghsudbek by the Darband river. Two other aqueducts exist on the east side of the Tajrish bazaar (Bazar-e-Tajrish) which are Sar-e-Tajrish and Kahrizak.

What is the history of Tajrish?

at

Until the 1920s, Tajrish and neighboring shemiranat county were a collection of small villages located in the north side of Tehran. The area was relatively disconnected from Tehran’s urban area with the exception of Old Shemiran Road, currently known as Shariati Avenue. Tajrish itself was an independent part of Tehran’s province. During the Qajar period, Tehran was chosen as the capital of Iran. At the same time, Tajrish became the summer resort of Tehran’s citizens. In order to escape the heat during the hot season of summer many of Tehrani residents started building gardens for their summer residence in that area. With the progress of Tehran as the capital city, roads and highways where built. The construction of Pahlavi Road (now named valiasr Ave ) in 1930s and Modarres Highway, after the revelation then known as Shahanshahi Boulevard, the Northern suburbs became highly accessible from downtown and rapid extension began.

What does Tajrish look like?

at

Today, the structure has slightly changed and the things left from the old Tajrish neighbourhood are its traditional market and several houses next to Imamzadehsaleh shrine. Tajrish bazar, the great Tajrish Tekyeh (a place where Shiites gather for mourning of Moharram) and Imam Zadeh Saleh Shrine are among the old and most beautiful attractions of this neighborhood. If you’re up for some hiking you can visit Darband in the northern part of Tajrish to have lunch and get some exercise. If you’re into some shopping beside the tajrish bazar you can also visit modern shopping centers in the area such as Tandis shopping center, Arg shopping center, or right next to the old bazar Qaem passage. Other attractions that you might like visiting while in the region are sa’adabad complex, niavaran palace complex, cinema museum, music museum, and the museum of time.
