Si Tir Street is one of the old and original neighborhoods of Tehran. Due to the uprising of the people on July 20, 1931, it was renamed from Qavam Al-Saltanah to Si Tir. This street has played a major part in the country’s tourism industry from the past 100 years.
History
It is said that because of an old hospital on that street, it was once known as the hospital street. Until they chose the name Qawam al-Saltanah for the street because of the proximity to his settlement.
After a while, due to the location of the Gospel Church (St. Peter), the Haim Synagogue and the Adrian Zoroastrian Fire Temple it became to be known as Adian Street (the street of religions).
Today, however, its name is 30 Tir Street (the translation: 20th of July). On July 20, 1931 with the invitation of Ayatollah Kashani, the people of Tehran closed the bazaars and shops and took to the streets, demanding the overthrow of Ghavam.
National Museum of Iran, is more than 70 years old. It contains 300,000 museum objects in an area more than 20,000 square meters. It is not only the largest museum of History and Archaeology of the country, but ranks as one of the few most prestigious museums of the world in regard to grand volume, diversity and quality.
The building of Abgineh museum is a historical house related to the Qajar period. Abgineh Museum houses unique historical collections of pottery and glass work of Iran. This museum is one of the most visited museums in Tehran and most of its visitors is foreigners. On average, more than 2 million people visit the museum each year.
This museum is under the authority of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. Currently, the museum operates in three galleries. Their names are indigenous technology center, science center, and a gallery from Morse to mobile.
They include, Evangelical Church (St. Peter), Hayim Synagogue, Farabi Cinema Foundation, Tehran Industrial Conservatory, historical cafes and along this street after Jomhouri St. there are more beautiful places which include, Firooz Bahram High School, Adrian Fire Temple and St. Mary’s Church, which are among the most beautiful and historic buildings in Tehran.
